Abstract
Introduction: Stroke is a neurological disorder that can cause loss of motor function, resulting in physical mobility impairment. In addition to physical effects, stroke also affects the psychological condition of patients, such as feelings of helplessness, loss of independence, and depression. This also has an impact on the quality of life of patients and their families who care for them.
Purpose: This case study aims to assess the impact of physical therapy and family support on the psychosocial well-being of post-stroke patients diagnosed with helplessness.
Methodology: This case study design uses a case study design with two subjects who are post-stroke patients experiencing helplessness. Data analysis was performed descriptively to describe the recovery process through physical therapy and family support.
Findings: Patients with high family support showed an increase in muscle strength from the initial level to a better level, as well as increased independence in daily activities. Patients with low family support showed slower progress and still needed assistance in most activities.
Limitation: The short intervention period and limited number of subjects limit the generalizability of the findings.
Contribution: This study shows that simple physical therapy combined with family support can be an effective approach to improving independence and reducing helplessness in post-stroke patients.
