Abstract
Introduction: Oedema in pregnant women, particularly during the third trimester. However, when oedema becomes excessive and is accompanied by elevated blood pressure and proteinuria, it may serve as an early indicator of preeclampsia. One of the major consequences of preeclampsia is impaired placental perfusion, which leads to a reduction in the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the fetal brain. Kaempferia Galanga-based hydrotherapy is one of the non-pharmacological approaches used to reduce oedema.
Purpose: To determine the effect of Kaempferia Galanga-based hydroterapi on the reduction of leg oedema in third-trimester pregnant women, particularly at the Community Health Centre, Kereng Bangkirai UPT area, Palangka Raya.
Methodology: The research design used in this study was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population in this study consisted of third-trimester pregnant women in the working area of Puskemas Kereng Bangkirai. The total sample was 35 respondents. The statistical test used in this study was the Wilcoxon test.
Findings: The average degree of oedema of Kaempferia Galanga-based hydrotherapy showed a pretest mean score of 5.3429 and a posttest mean score of 2.0571. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value = 0.000, with a significance level of p < 0.05, indicating that there was a significant effect of galanga-based hydrotherapy on reducing leg oedema
Limitation: The short duration of the intervention (only five days) and the use of a one-group pretest–posttest design,which limits the ability to compare results with a control group.
