PARENTS AWARENESS AND ATTITUDES CONCERNING EXCESSIVE SCREEN TIME EXPOSURE IN TODDLERS

Abstract
Background:
Toddlers are babies under five years old, where at this age the growth and development process influences language development, creativity, emotional development, social awareness, and intelligence.
Objective:This study aims to determine the description of mothers’ knowledge and attitudes towards the impact of excessive screen time on toddlers aged 3–5 years in Langkai Village, Palangka Raya City.
Methodology: This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. Sampling was conducted using a probability sampling technique with 113 respondents. Data were obtained using primary data by interviewing mothers of toddlers (3-5 years old) who use gadgets in Langkai Village,
Palangka Raya City. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires.
Findings: The research conducted on 113 respondents found that 108 respondents (95.58%) had good knowledge of mothers, and 99 respondents (87.61%) had good attitudes, 63 respondents (55.75%) had female children, 60 respondents (53.10%) had an average age of 31-50 years (middle adulthood), 60 respondents (53.10%) had the mother’s last education of secondary education (SMA/MA/SMK), 109 respondents (96.46%) had family income below the UMK in Palangka Raya, and 75 children (66.37%) used gadgets for more than 1 hour. It can be concluded that many mothers’ knowledge and attitudes towards the impact of excessive screen time on toddlers (3-5 years old) in Langkai Village, Palangka Raya City have good knowledge and attitudes, the majority of children are female, mothers are aged 31-50 years (middle adulthood), the mother’s last education is secondary education (SMA/MA/SMK), family income is below the UMK Palangka Raya, the duration of gadget use is >1 hour.
Limitation: The limitation of this study is that it was difficult for the researcher to schedule time with respondents due to their activities.
Contribution: It is hoped that this research will contribute to health services for communities in Langkai and surrounding areas as a preventive measure.
