Abstract
Objective: To determine the comparison of the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation therapy with classical music therapy on reducing menstrual pain scale in adolescent girls in Palangka Raya City
Methodology: The research design used quasi-experiment with two pretest-posttest with group design. The study population in this study was students at SMP Negeri 8 Palangka Raya. The sample of this study was 48 people divided into 2 groups, namely progressive muscle relaxation therapy and classical music therapy using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis using Wilcoxon & Mann Whitney test.
Conclusion: This study shows progressive muscle relaxation therapy and classical music therapy can reduce menstrual pain scales with p-value results of 0.001 < α (0.05). Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is more effective at reducing menstrual pain scales than classical music therapy.
Limitations: The limitation of this study is that conducting this study takes a long time because the schedule of each menstrual respondent is not the same, conducting research at school will interfere with children’s learning activities and environmental conditions when interventions are less conducive.
Contribution: This research was conducted at SMPN 8 Palangka Raya and this research is very useful to provide adolescent health education, especially on how to reduce menstrual pain non-pharmacologically in adolescent girls.
